General Care

The term “evidence based medicine” may be new to you, so let me explain what it means. Practicing medicine has always been a blend of art and science. In the past, it was much more art than science. Few treatments were rigorously studied before they were unleashed on the public. The list of medications, devices and operations that have been taken off the market because they were eventually proven to be worthless or even harmful is huge. To practice evidence based medicine means that whenever possible, I rely on the current best evidence from the peer reviewed medical literature to guide diagnosis and treatment. At Eagle Internal Medicine, we don’t “wing it”. I rely on new tools like http://www.uptodate.com as well as trusted sources like the New England Journal of Medicine to make sure you get the correct treatment. That’s the science part, the art lies in how these fact based decisions about diagnosis and treatment are individualized to meet your needs.
